Meta just bought Manus, an AI startup everyone has been talking about

Source: TechCrunch (Dec 29, 2025)

Meta has acquired Manus, a Singapore-based AI startup, for $2 billion. Manus launched this spring with a viral demo showing AI agents that could screen job candidates, plan vacations, and analyze portfolios. After raising $75 million from Benchmark at a $500 million valuation in April, the company recently announced it had millions of users and crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

The acquisition brings Meta its first AI product that's actually generating significant revenue, addressing investor concerns about Meta's $60 billion AI infrastructure spending. Meta plans to keep Manus operating independently while integrating its agents into Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

However, Manus has Chinese founders who established the parent company Butterfly Effect in Beijing in 2022 before moving to Singapore. This has raised concerns in Washington, with Senator John Cornyn previously criticizing Benchmark's investment in the company. Meta has stated that after the acquisition, Manus will have no Chinese ownership interests and will discontinue operations in China.

Your 2026 AI Strategy Session

This prompt turns you into your own strategic advisor. It analyzes what you're already doing, identifies gaps, and maps out practical AI upgrades for 2026 based on where the technology is actually headed (not sci-fi fantasyland).
I want to create a personalized AI strategy for 2026. Here's my current situation: What I'm currently using AI for:
[List your top 3-5 use cases - e.g., "drafting emails," "content planning," "data analysis"] Tools I'm actively using:[List them - ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, etc.]My role/industry:[Your title and field]Biggest time drains in my work:[What consistently eats your hours?] Skills I want to develop in 2026:[Professional or personal growth areas]Based on this context and realistic predictions for AI capabilities in 2026 (multimodal improvements, better reasoning, more specialized tools, improved automation), create:1. Three "upgrade opportunities" — specific ways I should level up my AI usage in Q1 2026 2. Two "emerging capabilities to watch" — features or tools launching in 2026 that align with my needs 3. One "strategic shift" — a bigger change in how I approach AI that will compound throughout the year
Make it practical. No buzzwords. Just actionable next steps.

Your 2026 AI Audit

Before you chase shiny new tools in 2026, let's figure out what's actually working right now.

The Mission: Spend 15 minutes this week tracking every time you use AI. No judgment, just data.

How:
1. Open a simple note on your phone labeled "AI Usage - Week of [date]"
2. Every time you prompt ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI tool, jot down one line: what you
asked for and whether it saved you time
3. End of week: Count how many times you used AI for new tasks vs. repeat tasks

Quick win: Screenshot your audit at week's end and set a calendar reminder for June 2026 to run it again. Watch how your usage evolves.

Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones.
